Default So, where are you thinking about applying, and why?

    Hello,
It's been a while since I've posted on here, hope everyone's summer of UKCAT studying has gone ok. But I was wondering, where is everyone thinking about applying to, and why?

    Here's mine:
Aberdeen: as I like the way in which they build up your clinical skills and patient contact over the course, and the fact they have a brilliant and long term history. Also, they dont make as big a deal about UKCAT as most, which is relieving. They also have one of Europe's biggest clinical campuses which is brill.
Liverpool: Love the idea of PBL(seems to suit me well), and they also have a long term history of medicine. Also I can do my clinical years in Lancaster, which is nice and close to home.
Newcastle: Love the course structure, and its a lovely area.
Sheffield: Also course structure, and brilliant area.

Oxford: their admissions policy suits my strengths and the city is lovely. They provide you with accommodation throughout the course which isn't too expensive or bad either. Compulsory intercalated degree and focus on pre-clinical medicine is a positive too. Finally the tutorial system appears to be very effective.

Imperial: I live in London so it won't take a lot of getting used to the location. Compulsory intercalated degree again and the number of societies you can join is huge. Who can forget the amazing gym XD

King's College: Admissions policy plays to my strengths. Large choice of SSCs and intercalated degrees. It is also linked to 3 very good hospitals.

Birmingham: Plays to my strengths again. Good integrated course and the diverse community in Birmingham will be beneficial in the clinical years. The university also has it's own station

Well its quite far but there's a direct train route all the way from edinburgh (which is easy to get to from where I live). So really it isnt as far as you'd think.

Since your a student from an EU country Glasgow med school should treat you the same as any other home applicant I think, and I am sure 590 average wouldn't be enough.

Hi, I see you might be applying to Birmingham, so I'm just wondering what you know about the number of A*s at GCSE applicants need to get an interview? I heard last year it was 8 A*s, so did that mean everyone with 8 A*s or more at GCSE was interviewed, or do they have to distinguish at that point using the personal statement?

From what I've seen and heard, everyone with 8 A*s+ got an interview and those below got an instant rejection. Apparantly this year it will go up to 8.5 A*s but you should phone/email them just in case.

Okay thanks, it's just that I have 8 A*s so I'm thinking it might be a wasted choice (straight rejection), however I have emailed and phoned them a couple of times and all they said is that a minimum of 7 A*s is required, which has been the case for the last couple of years, but obviously it depends on who applies each application cycle.
